Miss Pickles, a seven-year-old pug, was given her big break in the Avocado of Mexico advertisement on Super Bowl Sunday. Super Bowl commercials are unlike any other; research has shown that a whopping 75 percent of the total viewers admitted that they look forward to seeing the ads more than the game.
So it is understandable that for Miss Pickles the Pug, this isn’t just a minute in the show ring. This is her opportunity to excel as a canine entertainer debuting in one of the most significant sports events. With blinking lights and a crowd of people, Miss Pickles must only focus on one thing: her owner’s instructions.
It all began when Margaret Skorka decided to adopt Pugs. Skorka had always been fond of Pugs not only for their strong-willed character but also for their unfailing ability to deliver a smile. “The clowns of the dog world,” as Skorka says.
Early in 2017, the Skorka and her boyfriend brought Miss Pickles home and quickly realized that she was one of the least favorites in the foster home. Miss Pickles was overweight, had infections hidden behind her folds and ears, she had decaying teeth, and a harness that was strapped unto her so tight that her skin had become raw and red underneath. Because of these, people and certain situations frighten her.
In 2018, Miss Pickles was diagnosed with mast cell tumor. However, this 7-years-old Pug won the battle against cancer and continues to pave her way to stardom with an astounding 13 million followers on her own Instagram account.
Within the same year, Miss Pickles appeared in a commercial at the Super Bowl! During the taping of the ad, Skorka admitted that she was quite nervous. With 40 people and other dogs around, Miss Pickles had a hard time concentrating on the task. But Skorka said that Miss Pickles nailed her shoot.
Lots of fans were super excited when Skorka shared the news. Skorka said that she could not believe that Miss Pickles made it to a Super Bowl ad.
Miss Pickles was a very different version of herself two years ago. Back then, she was a scared, unhappy, and unhealthy pug. But now, she is the happiest, healthiest and the most famous pug.
Miss Pickles was enrolled in a workshop for movie animal behavior. Skorka was hoping for more doors to open for Miss Pickles. But for now, she shares her pug’s daily life to Instagram in the hopes that more people would be encouraged to adopt foster dogs.
