The DFW Pug Rescue was on a mission to save the lives of 37 Pugs stuck in a puppy mill. They were so surprised when they discovered a dark secret inside the cages. A lot of English Bulldogs were crammed in it; they were not moving at all.
One of the Bulldogs stuck inside the cages is Schnitzel. After years of receiving different kinds of abuse, she found herself suffering from various medical issues.
It’a obvious that she had given birth to countless litters. She also had Cherry Eye which made it hard for her to see anything. Schnitzel also had a sensitive stomach, demodectic mange, infected ears, pneumonia, kennel cough, and a tail that was set for amputation.
No matter the wreckage
With Schnitzel’s condition, one would deem it impossible for her to find any friend. Surprisingly, one woman decided to look past all of her illnesses and just form a relationship with her.
Ashley Helkenn and Hans (her husband) were looking for a dog they can adopt that time. They had their hearts set on an English Bulldog that’s why Schnitzel caught their attention. Hans was a little bit hesitant at first because of the dog’s medical condition. Ashley, however, convinced him that all Schnitzel needs is love, patience, and another shot in life.
It took some time for the English Bulldog to warm up to her paw parents. She has been used to living in the puppy mill that she has no idea what it’s like to live in a house. Schnitzel took her sweet time in adjusting to her new living conditions. Ashley and Hans understood what their dog was going through.
When people asked why Ashley adopted a sick dog, her answer was simple. She immediately felt a strong connection with Schnitzel the moment she laid eyes on her.
